Google Sandbox - Fact or Fiction?

There is a great debate of whether the Google sandbox exists or not at the forums on digitalpoint.

Points out of the thread are

• It definitely exists but the question lies in the time a site remains in it.
• Google has preferred pages old enough to attract others to link to them
• yeah the sandbox is there but its effects are little
• you can get out the sandbox within 1 or 2 weeks (I don’t think so)
• It all depends on your industry & aggressiveness of SEO and link building
• It exist. You just won't see Google acknowledge it.
• There is no sandbox and never was one.
• Google has employed certain time frames for certain categories of websites and the competition level of keyword terms comes into play.
• No sandbox for organic results, just a normal adjustment period so to speak
• Google will not recommend a new site, as they have no trust in it.
• what has been termed "trust rank" by some other experienced SEOs

The points were from new and experienced members with past experiences given. To summarise, the sandbox does exist, sites are barred from competing for certain keywords in certain industries depending on the competitiveness. Terms like real estate will take longer for new sites to appear compared with niche terms like blue spotted giraffe.
