Tools
and Downloads
Here is a list
of tools and programs that I personally use to maintain websites.
These tools are freeware and can be downloaded at download.com.
Filezilla FTP program - This ftp program does all
the basics. It is open source and comes in two formats. You can
use the installation version or the exe version. This is handy if
you are on a pc that does not allow write access. Please Check out
the Downloads area to download this.
Editplus - Text editor, there are many similiar
versions floating around. This is the most popular as universities
in melbourne recommend this to their students. This is a lightweight
editor that supports basic html tags. It has colours and line numbers.
This tool is also useful as a log viewer.
Putty - if your on linux/unix based server then
you will want to have this program to help you connect via ssh.
SSH is particuliar useful to run scripts directly of the server
and compress and move files between directories.
Download Mail - very simple tool that connects to
your pop mail box via webmail. Visit here to test your pop account.

CPU Tester - This
tool will test the raw speed of your processor.
Google Ban
Tool - A tool that scans pages for outgoing links and sees if
the websight is banned by google. Very Useful for checking link
partners.
